Politics: Today’s wha’ th’ … ?
News flash: Congress is getting ready to increase the amount going to food stamps:
A farm bill is working its way through Congress that has a provision to raise the food stamp benefits and nutrition programs by .3 billion over a five-year period. Food stamps and the nutrition program now represent 70 percent of the farm bill spending, said U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Peoria.
The bill, which will be voted on next Wednesday in the House, also would allow food stamps to be used on fruits and vegetables, LaHood said.
That’s nice.
In other news: Food stamps don’t already cover fruits and vegetables.
