Batman: Dark Knight

My oldest boy is into comic books right now. I am not a comics fan, but we worked hard to get the yard mowed Thursday so we could go as soon as I got off work on Friday. We hit the 4:40pm show @ Pekin.
So, in no particular order…

1. I figured the theater would be packed. It wasn’t. However, we were avoiding the 6:30pm (and later) show so it wouldn’t be quite so busy. There were plenty of empty seats.

2. I love popcorn. I love the fact that, at Pekin, you can butter your own popcorn.

3. I am not a comics fan, but have seen several Batman movies. Did the midnight opening show of “Batman” with Micheal Keaton and Jack Nicholson back in the day because it was the thing to do. I enjoy Christian Bale in the role, but, more importantly, I enjoy Micheal Caine and Morgan Freeman int heir supporting roles. I did not know a lot about the movie before I saw it.

4. I am not a fan of Heath Ledger. I just am not. That being said, he is excellent as the Joker. No back-story on the Joker. He is just this crazy S.O.B. who wears greasepaint and is methodically and deliberately bad just because that’s what he wants to do.

5. Bat-Cycle = Cool. (I abhor motorcycles but, yeah, this is cool.)

maggie-gyllenhaal.jpeg6. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s character – well, she is no Kirsten Dunst – so I wasn’t all that upset to see how that potential love triangle was resolved.

7. This movie is two-and-a-half hours long. It is practically a double-feature, in and of itself. There is no intermission. It doesn’t need one. It sure doesn’t feel that long. Still, it would be prudent to avoid purchasing the large soda.

8. Gary Oldman is awesome, as well. He is just a regular cop. You can kind of feel that he is scared. He knows who is good and who is bad. he also understand public perception is not reality.

9. Anthony Micheal Hall keeps popping up in this movie as a reporter-type guy. Hmm! Reporters are always asking questions. Maybe I am crazy, but could we be looking at future Riddler?

10. The conversation be tween Mr. Reese and Lucius Fox is, indeed, priceless.

Yes, folks, this is one you need to see on the big screen.

Whenever a movie gets as much hype as this one did, I go into the theater skeptical. Nevertheless, I loved it. Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker completely lived up to the hype. When you watch Nicholson as the Joker, you think to yourself, “That’s Nicholson as the Joker.” When you watch Ledger as the Joker, you think to yourself, “That’s the Joker.”

Great flick. Oh, by the way, I saw it at Rave in Peoria on Friday night at 10:30 and it was packed. I got one of the last seats in the auditorium.

    “There’s no intermission?”

Um…when was the last time you went to a movie? Intermissions went out with the 1940’s

Ryan, when was the last time you saw a two-and-a-half hour movie?

The last movie I saw with an intermission was Schindler’s List.

Bring intermission back! I really don’t like catheters. *Shudder*

Yeah I was at the 10:30 too and I got there just in time to get some decent seats. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a movie full almost to capacity like that. I loved the movie. It wasn’t perfect. There were a couple logic flaws but those were minor. What I love about the reboot of batman has been how strong the supporting cast has been. Almost everyone in them is a great actor. I’m just glad Rachel Dawes was recast for the second movie. I’d look for Catwoman to be in the 3rd movie.

    Saw it yesterday.

Lived up to all the hype.

I haven’t seen a Batman movie since Michael Keaton, and I’m glad I waited till this one.

I feel sorry for the actor who reprises the Joker role. That performance was even better than advertised.

Thought the whole “bat-vision” scene could have been left out.
