Local: A ‘war zone’ in the Heights?

DeWayne Bartels has two “breaking news” stories on the Peoria Times Observer Web site. The first is how asbestos inspections on Paris Avenue in Peoria Heights has nine houses looking like they are being demolished. The whole thing is in advance of construction of a strip mall along War Memorial Drive.

Also, Bartels reports that OSF has leased about half of the vacant K’s Merchandise Mart on Pioneer Parkway. They plan to use it to consolidate offices. About 200 employees will be relocated there.

Meanwhile the Journal Star has reported neither, and I don’t think they’ve ever mentioned anything about a strip mall going in anywhere along War Drive.

Nicely done in getting beat by the weekly!

What’s it say about the role of “bloggers” and blogs in serving as a primary news source when a significant portion of posts are links to daily newspaper articles (which we’ve heard time and time again are regurgitating news that is over 12 hours old by the time you read it) or in this case – linking to a weekly newspaper?

I think it shows the value of newspapers when original reporting is conducted!
