Local: ‘Breakfast’ at the Apollo
Edwards, Capote, Mancini and Hepburn team in comedy at Apollo
A film comedy based on a bestseller by celebrated novelist and journalist Truman Capote ushers in August this weekend at the Apollo Theater.
Showing at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 2, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” showcases Capote’s writing skills and a collaboration between various talents. It was directed by Blake Edwards (”The Pink Panther,” “Days of Wine and Roses”). It stars Audrey Hepburn (”Roman Holiday,” “My Fair Lady,” “Wait Until Dark”). And the music won two Oscars for composer Henry Mancini (whose music ranges from this movie’s “Moon River” and “Hatari’s” “Baby Elephant Walk” to the score for “Touch of Evil” and the theme to “The Pink Panther”).
Released in 1961, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is a romantic comedy about an offbeat young New Yorker (Hepburn) and her relationship with a less eccentric writer (Peppard).
Nominated for three other Academy Awards, the motion picture’s cast also includes Mickey Rooney, Patricia Neal, Martin Balsam and Buddy Ebsen.
Also this Saturday, the Apollo’s summer matinees wrap up with a 1 p.m. screening of cinema moments from W.C. Fields, the Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy and Harold Lloyd.
Admission at the nonprofit Apollo is $5 and $4 for kids and seniors, $3 for matinees. Shows start at 7 p.m.; for details call (309) 673-4343.

Or you could check out the same DVD from the library and watch it at home on your big-screen TV for free. That’s all they do at the Apollo. Too bad they don’t show actual film anymore like the Normal Theater.

Mickey Rooney plays a Japanese neighbor – made me cringe.
