Media: Is the Journal Star advertising prostitutes, and why should we care?

Go to Peoria Illinoisan’s blog. The evidence seems pretty convincing.

Why would a legit massage place need a picture of a pretty young Asian girl in a bikini?

What are the ethical implications? Well, there’s a school of thought that says anyone ought to be able to advertise their legal businesses. While there have apparently been prostitution busts at this place (it’s in Bloomington), it’s still open. I remember that the JS used to take ads for Big Al’s, and I know from first-hand experience some of the dancers offer on-premises sex (which, for the record, I declined). I don’t recall seeing any such ads recently, and I don’t know if that’s the newspaper’s decision or Big Al’s owners.

Personally, I’m more offended by the ads they allow in the help-wanted section of the classifieds. For one thing, the National Guard isn’t taking job applications and shouldn’t be pretending they are. And some of these companies seem to constantly be hiring, but never seem to hire anyone. I wonder why?
