Politics: Modern Whig interview gets attention
Yesterday’s interview with Modern Whig Party Chairman Mike Lebowitz picked up some links from here, here and here, which made this comment:
I highly recommend taking a few minutes to read the interview. It’s a great insight into the thinking behind America’s freshest and perhaps most innovative political party. Listen up, Libertarians and Greens alike, because I have a feeling that these people might surprise us with their success.
That was my conclusion too. My politics lean toward the libertarian, but I’m no Libertarian Party member. My complaint about the LP can easily be applied toward the Green Party as well:Â They demand that everything change. And thus, they achieve no change. Politicians promise change, but in reality, voters just want things to run a little bit better today than they did yesterday.
The LPers and the Greenies don’t get that. They want to smash it all and rebuild it according to their political aesthetic. Trouble is, 90 percent of the voters are happy enough with their political party of choice. They will, occasionally, vote for someone across the aisle whose views are close enough to their own.
The Modern Whigs fit that bill.
Any comment, third party members?

Given the Greens’ success in Europe, Aus/NZ, and parts of Canada (as well as in local elections in the US), including experience in governing coalitions, I don’t think it’s non-viable as a third party — I would suggest the problem in the US is a ballot-access issue, which is exactly the same problem with Whigs will face.

The issue that McGee is failing to realize is that the Whigs are circumventing the ballot access issue by combining their strategy and tactics with their idea of starting with a winning track record by running Whigs on major party tickets. The Whigs seem to get it that the majority of average Joes and Janes won’t be checking the name of a candidate that isn’t next to a D or an R. Change often comes from within.

Thanks for quoting my article!
I write for Independent Political Report, but agree with a lot of what you say.
