Local: Marketing through fear

I was going to write about how backers of a downtown museum are trying to scare people into supporting it.

But C.J. Summers beat me to it, and got is just right.

The Cat “deep stakes” comment is bogus. If Cat doesn’t have deep stakes now, it never will. Cat keeps its operations in the Peoria area because of strategic business considerations. The idea of mutual loyalty between towns and companies is an anachronism — if it ever existed.

Cat stays in Peoria because it is loads cheaper than operating out of a larger city. This is the same reason Wal-Mart stays in Bentonville (pop. 35,000).
