Local: Matt Hale, Elvis impersonator
When did this happen?
Elvis Presley may have been dead for 30 years, but the ‘King of Rock n Roll’ has shook up a man so much that he has spent nine months touring the world dressed as the legendary popstar.
Donning Presley’s trademark white jumpsuit, wig and shades, Matt Hale has attracted crowds at the world’s major tourist spots. “I thought this would honour the King. It seems to have worked as I’ve attracted loads of attention,” the Mirror quoted him, as stating.
Oh, don’t worry. The Feds didn’t let our friend Matt out of the clink. This is a different Matt Hale, obviously. At least, I think so.
Although, I would give $20 to see the former Führer of the World Church of the Creator belt out “In the Ghetto.”

…
“Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant shit to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was he
Simple and plain
Mother fuck him and John Wayne
Cause I’m Black and I’m proud
I’m ready and hyped plus I’m amped
Most of my heroes don’t appear on no stamps
Sample a look back you look and find
Nothing but rednecks for 400 years if you check
Don’t worry be happy
Was a number one jam
Damn if I say it you can slap me right here
(Get it) lets get this party started right
Right on, c’mon
What we got to say
Power to the people no delay
To make everybody see
In order to fight the powers that be
(Fight the Power)

If Elvis were alive today he would:
1. Beat the shit out of Matt Hale.
2. Tell Chuck D to kiss his white @$$.

I actually think there are now stamps for folks like MLK and Harriet Tubman, even Cesar Chavez has a stamp!
Chuck D has only been slightly vindicated, imho.
That is a great song, for the ages. Thanks Mahkno.

Chuck D takes license with creative hyperbole but there is an element of truth. Elvis was a man of his times. There were no black men in his band. The studio he was with was white owned. Sun records had a dicey history with black artists. That wasn’t unique to the industry but you didn’t exactly see Elvis fighting for the rights of black artists either. Elvis’s audience was overwhelmingly white. Many of the songs performed by Elvis and others were lifted from black artists with little if any credit or compensation.
He may not have been the Matt Hale sort of bigot but he didn’t exactly immerse himself in the African American culture either as that would surely have limited his career.

Being the other Matt Hale in question, I can confirm that it is not my nasty namesake suddenly finding a lighthearted nature! For full details on my ridiculous trip around the world in a $30 Elvis suit, head to http://www.crapelvis.com All races welcome!
