Media: Changes at the Journal Star
A source says that Christine Smith, member of the Journal Star Editorial Board, is leaving the paper to take a public relations type job with the American Red Cross. Her departure leaves Mike Bailey as the only PJS employee assigned full-time to editorial writing.

So now editorials and edorsements by THE PEORIA JOURNAL STAR will be nothing more than the personal opinion by one elitist egghead.
Prolly, the egghead won’t be long on the payroll either. Gatehouse will centralize the editorials.
Other papers in cities of similiar size still have substantial editorial boards. Never just one, two or three people masquerading as the local Wizard of Oz.
Gatehouse doesn’t have the money to add a second editor to the editorial board, just like they didn’t add one to replace Shelley Epstein.
Mike Bailey ought to give up the charade and just sign his editorials as Billy has been calling for.
The whole ivory tower is sinking. I give the editorial board another year and a half to exist, period. Now it’s not even a board, just and “editorial person.” But no doubt Bailey will continue to call HIMSELF an editorial board and still not sign HIS editorials.

UPDATE: Word is that GateHouse gave Mike Bailey the OK to hire someone toreplace Christine. That person is likely to come out of the JS newsroom. Will GateHouse give bosses permission to hire someone entirely new to replace THAT person? Doubtful.
