Media: Something the Blogosphere can learn from the MSM

You shouldn’t blame the messenger. It’s not the job of the media to blow smoke up readers’ collective butts and tell them that all is well when it is obvious that sis not the case. But reporters and editors constantly have to deal with economic and civic booster types who think passing along bad news is a form of treason.

And we seem to have a case of that in the Blogosphere. It seems the tech blog Tech Crunch is facing the wrath of a paid Microsoft blogger, who is apparently of the opinion Tech Crunch ought to not be telling folks about how the current economic downturn is hurting the dot com biz.

The Internet being what it is, this has turned into something of a slap fight, but I tend to side with Tech Crunch:

Our job isn’t to cheerlead the startup scene no matter what happens. Our job is to report the news as it happens and add our opinion as we feel is appropriate. So even if we were reporting nothing but doom and gloom, the criticism isn’t appropriate.
