Media: Been there, done that, kinda
A former print reporter turned blogger? Where have I heard THAT story before. Oh … yeah.
Sp, the fictional Rick Redfern and I have experienced exactly the same thing. Except he worked for the Washington Post, and I, well, didn’t. And he has phone numbers of high-ranking Obama campaign members. I think I have Steve Shearer’s phone number, somewhere.
Here’s one difference: I have more fun with this blog than I ever did as a mainstream media journalist. I also have more influence now than I ever did in print, albeit not as much as some people seem to think.
But can Redfern make a living at blogging? I’m not aware of any laid-off reporter who started a blog and was able to make a living out of it, unless the subject of the blog is young actresses who tend to forget to wear their panties.
