Politics: Union members support Callahan by more than 2-to-1 margin
An informal survey of area union members says 70 percent of them support Democrat Colleen Callahan, with 30 percent supporting Republican Aaron Schock.
This survey was done after Schock released a statement claiming endorsement from nine labor organizations.
Expect a more detailed statement from the Callahan campaign before the end of the day.

An “informal survey?” what the hell is that? That and $3.00 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

First, what is an “informal survey”??? Anyone could do an “informal survery” and get whatever result was desired.
The point of the union endorsements is that most of the time they support Democrats, and this time, while more support Callahan, nine unions do support Schock. So Callahan does not have a solid labor base and she is not in a position to lose any votes that a Demcrat would normally get.
Even if this “informal survey” is correct, Schock getting 30% of union voters is large for a Republican. One more reason he is heading for a big win.

After I get home from the bar tonight I’ll phone some of my pals and do a little informal polling myself. I’ll release the results of my drunk dialing in a press release tomorrow.

30% or union members is low for a Republican. McCain is getting about 42% of union members. Just like 30% of christians would be low for a Democrat.
Nine unions supporting Schock. The two education unions NEA & IEA are the same organization-1 is an international(DC), 1 is the State org(IL). Police-1is an International(DC), 1 a State org(IL) and the other is a City (Peoria-Local). The Operating Engineers is an International (DC). The Carpenters is an International (DC). The Firefighters and the Airline Pilots are both internationals (DC).
Out of his 9 unions, only one is local. Pretty deep support. Sure smoe union members will support Schock, but overwhelmingly they will vote for Callahan.

News release: Callahan campaign gets support from overwhelming majority of people who will vote for Barack Obama!
I give Terry Towery kudos for effort, Schock trots out 116 mayoral endorsements and Terry trots out 6 pseudo republicans; Schock reports the support of several major unions (look how much money these unions provided to democrats compared to republicans) and terry runs around the labor temple (aka the democrat election day GOTV headquarters) and gets a “survey” of 2-1. Let me be generous here and concede the possibility that they actually did some sort of “legitimate” phone survey. Did they only call hard D households?
Where is your critical eye about THIS survey when you so roundly criticised Schock for using Public Opinions Strategies.

Callahan’s campaign shouldn’t have tried to get this item published. It’s so foolishly transparent that it’s pathetic. Did they really think people would be awstruck by an “informal poll”? My gosh, this reeks of desperation. Who is managing that campaign? A bunch of fith graders?

IEA, endoses Aaron Schock. The same IEA that endorsed Jehan Gordon and gave her over $30,000. We now know one thing, they like lawbreakers not lawmakers.
