Site news: Peoria Pundit lowers the boom on anonymous comments
This is as good a time as any.
Local elections are coming up, and I am not going have a repeat of what has happened in the past: Supporters of various candidates get together to dump criticism on other candidates. That’s fine as long as they don’t do it behind a cloak an anonymity. Now, I am not going to require people to blog under their real name. But I will require that commenters be registered members of this site, which requires them to supply a valid email address.
Your email addresses will remain secret, and I don’t even need to know your real name. But by having a valid email on record, it will cut down on knuckleheaded behavior.
Yes, I know that some folks have a hard time doing so.
If that happens, send me an email — peoriapundit AT gmail DOT com — using YOUR email address. I’ll register you personally. You will also need to tell your security software — or Windows — to accept cookies from blogpeoria.com.
I’ve done this before, then stopped because of glitches. I think that most glitches are a thing of the past, as the site has been stable without a lot of database issues.
Also, various friends and long-time commenters have been granted Site Admin status. These folks should feel free to sign anyone up who has a valid email.
The goal here is to raise the level of discourse, even if it results is lowing the amount of discourse.
