Local: Sheridan Triangle work not all that essential
What is it about the concept of “essential services first” that is so hard to understand? Basically, it’s a philosophy says that if the City of Peoria has the cash for extras, that’s fine. Let’s debate how to divvy up the pot, or better yet, lower taxes to let residents decide how to spend their own money.
But not until after the city meets its obligations to pay for essential city services.
This includes, but isn’t limited to, police and fire protection and infrastructure. You know streets, sidewalks, drainage. There are items that are related to infrastructure, but in the great scheme of things, really aren’t all that essential. And then there’s stuff that’s more about targeting specific constituencies than meeting essential needs.
