Politics: Why we need citizen journalism
Congressman Ray LaHood has accepted an officer to become the new Secretary of Transportation, and the ONLY place where you can read in-depth information and commentary on LaHood’s positions on transportation issues if at C.J. Summer’s site.
Every position mentioned by C.J. and his commenters is on the Web and available to members of the national media. Let’s see if any of it gets a mention. And then let’s see how many times they mention that LaHood just happened to be the guy banging the gavel at the Clinton impeachment hearings.
I’m still waiting for Mr. LaHood to explain why he let the nuclear power industry pay for his trip to France.

I’ve just gotta point out that this was the guy, our representative, that said “we” didn’t need a new expressway to hook us up to Chicago. We had a fine “highway”: Route 29. And now he’s going to be the Transporation Secretary.

We have 74 to 55 or 39 into Chicago, what do you want?

More roads does not always equal better.
Cars and trucks are great when the routes and destinations change all the time. When one is talking about moving back and forth between two specific desinations — like Chicago to Peoria — I can see the efficiencies with rail for merchandise and commuters.
