And my opinion of abortion is …

Posted in Uncategorized on May 31, 2009 by Billy Dennis

… that I’m not planning on having one.
Sorry for being flip about it, but I’m not the one who has to carry the baby in my womb. If someone does not own their own body, what rights do they have at all? So, yes, I am a supporter of abortion rights. I don’t think abortion is some value-neutral act, or just another form of birth control. But I cannot rationally consider a something that is just a small collection of cells to be a person with the same rights as a walking, talking pregnant female.
I think the way it was ruled in Roe v. Wade, in which the right to an abortion diminishes as the baby grows in the womb, is probably the best approach. I think most Americans agree with this to some degree.
But as it is in many cases, those who hold positions on the extreme ends of [...]

Emtronics

If you’ve read Randall’s site today, you’ve figured out that we had a bit of a blow-up today. I regret showing my ass in public.
I just left the following comment on his site, which I am repeating here as an apology.
In retrospect, I had no business calling you an idiot. I was out of line in that regard. I was angry with the suggestion was was filtering your comments deliberately, and with your failure to recognize I was going out of my way to rescue your comments and that you were not the only person this was happening to.

Randall is NOT blocked here at Peoria Pundit. Her can post whenever he wants, I just suggest he avoid the username “Emtronics” as it seems to trigger my spam filter.
Also, this applies to everyone, PLEASE to not use the comments section to complain about site issues. Use email or the contact [...]

An original observation

Posted in 9413 on May 31, 2009 by Billy Dennis

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that there is an unusually large amount of small-animal roadkill on the streets and highways recently?
I take rural Peoria County roads to get back and forth to work and I seem to be noticing a lot of the mangled critters the past week or so.

Some housecleaning

I’m adding [deleted] to the IP addresses that go to moderation queue. There is a possibility this might affect more than just one person. If you are a Comcast customer and you notice your comments not showing up immediately, this may be why. My apologies in advance.
A person who has been banned from commenting keeps figuring out how to get around it and is violating my rather loose commenting rules.
Next step is to file a terms of service abuse report to the various ISPs she is using.
I simply don’t have time to deal with people who insist on using the comments section to make comments on how their and others’ comments are being blocked deliberately (a list that includes only 1 person). It’s not what comments are for. It’s a form of trolling and I don’t have time or energy for it, and if it is alled to [...]

Some something-to-sleep over ever candy

Posted in Uncategorized on May 31, 2009 by Billy Dennis

I got home from work at about 8 p.m. I ate some dinner and promptly fell asleep. I woke up at about 6 a.m. I guess I needed it. Anyway, I didn’t have time to blog.
So here’s is a picture of  actress Summer Glau that I found kinda cute because of the t-shirt.*

Y0u see, I’m an old school kinda guy. I’m fond of the original Barbara-Gordon-riding-the-Batcycle Batgirl, not so much the new Batgirl who’s decked out all in black-leather Batgirl.
Summer here is kinda cute too. I don’t think I ever watched a single episode of “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” all the way through to the end tough, so I’m not exactly mourning it’s cancellation. Come to think of it, I never saw “Terminator III” either.
* Yesterday at work, I made the comment to a co-worker is that if a cute young girl wears an interesting T shirt, I can’t exactly [...]

Knock me over with a feather: Caterpillar executives are lousy tippers

Posted in Uncategorized on May 30, 2009 by Billy Dennis

This arrived in my inbox from someone who wants to remain anonymous:
The second worst experience I’ve ever had in my 10+ years in the business happened this week. I had a group of Caterpillar EXECUTIVES, not management mind you, but VP’s, spend three plus hours talking about 100 millions dollar deals leave me ten percent on a $400+ bill. these are millionaires, talking about billions of dollars, and they cant even leave 15 percent for a PRIVATE room, great service, and three hours! That’s not ‘the economy.’ That’s just being an asshole.

While 15 percent is the standard, a 10 percent tip is not all that bad considering there are too many jerks who leave less. What makes this bad is that these guys took up three hours of time. Every minute spent servicing them was a minute not helping some other customer.
It’s a truism that people who actually work [...]

Some eye candy by request

Cameron has been tweeting about how he likes Mila Kunis. So, I figure, what the heck:

If you don’t know who she is, Google “Family Guy” and “That ’70s Show.”

America’s favorite mommyblogger

Posted in Uncategorized on May 29, 2009 by Billy Dennis

Considering the God-awful stink a bunch of people made the last time I used the term “mommy blogger,” I fully expect to be condemned for linking to this post.

So why the picture? Well, in for a penny, in for a pound, I always say.
Besides, she won me over with the can of Pabst shoved down her pants.
Please note this particular mommy blogger makes enough cash to support her entire family. And she’s not exactly blogging about making cookies and standing by her man.
So spare me the highly contrived outrage over being called “mommy blogger.”
And take your victimhood elsewhere.

Victory, but at what price?

Via The Register.
Rising Romanian tennis star Simona Halep is facing popular opposition to her plan to reduce her breasts, which she describes as an “uncomfortable” impediment to optimum performance on the court.
The 17-year-old junior French Open champ – whose vital stats are: height 5ft 5in; world ranking 264; cup size 34DD – confirmed: “This fall I’ll have a breast reduction operation. The breasts make me uncomfortable when I play. It’s the weight that troubles me – my ability to react quickly.”

The Amazons used to remove  one of their breasts to improve their archery skills. Maybe it worked. But they didn’t get a lot of dates.

Have we learned nothing from ‘Poltergeist’ movies?

Via ‘Body count’ shocks library panel.
One thing is certain, though: “We’ll find something,” according to M. Catherine Bird, research coordinator and corporate secretary with MARS.
Representatives with the organization estimate 708 people could potentially have been buried throughout the block surrounding the library.
Bird estimated that 10 percent, or 71 bodies, could be uncovered in and around the library expansion site. Other areas within the surrounding park that are not slated for the expansion job will be left undisturbed.

So, when library patrons gets sucked into the white light, don’t come complaining to me.
