You’ve gotta look out for these ‘militant atheists’

Yeah, I’ve come to accept that 95 percent of Americans don’t want to hear about atheism. You can have a dude who haven’t been to church in 10, 20 years and who hasn’t a good word to say about church or religion will still, when asked if he’s an atheist, will deny it vociferously.

And no, dammit, NO, I am not an atheist.

Should have labed Joseph Stalin or Mao Tse Tung as the Militant Athiest. Let’s see, Athiest-controlled governments have killed what…100 million+ since 1917?

  2.   Lisa Says:

Not in the name of atheism, they haven’t.

  3.   Billy Dennis Says:

Oh, bullshit. they did NONE of those things in the name of atheism. They murdered and raped their way yo power. in the name of communism. They would have done the same in the name of Buddha or God, had they been born in different times.

  4.   ollie Says:

Stalin was an atheist but he started off as a seminary student (Orthodox). He also lead a sort of state religion in which dissent (regardless of evidence) was not tolerated; google “Soviet agriculture catastrophe”.

The problem is that people confuse the world “militant” with “outspoken” and people get their feelings hurt when their superstitions are not given “respect”.

  5.   David P. Jordan Says:

Communism replaces the Creator with a supreme state, or “State Atheism,” i. e., rights come from human government, not God. Following communist revolutions in Russia, China and other countries, opponents were murdered by the tens of millions in order to force this belief on the people.

(A large portion of this 100 million figure, perhaps half, was a consequence of Mao’s nutty agricultural policy of 1958-1961, which led to mass starvation. But this was still due to supreme government control of the people.)

These examples just go to show why the use of Richard Dawkins as the “militant atheist” is so innacurate.

  6.   Billy Dennis Says:

Ummmm … no. Communism is one form of government that replaces another form of government. Communism is just another flavor of totalitarianism, not all that different from Fascism or extreme monarchism, really. Now, if you are someone who equates government with the Church, naturally, you equate Communism with a different religion.

  7.   Billy Dennis Says:

And I am really unaware of Dawson’s support of Communism (probably because it doesn’t exist).

  8.   Billy Dennis Says:

Oh, and for the really wacko, out of control examples of doctrinaire communism, I would have used the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia. Naturally, the U.S. turned a blind eye to this regime because they were the enemy of the somewhat less violent and evil Communist Vietnam.

Billy, to remedy your obvious confusion, you really should read up on communism. While some dictatorships use religion as a way to control their people (no need to list the obvious examples), Communism distrusts ALL religion, and its adherents see it as a threat to their power (religious people see their Creator, not the State, as the giver of rights).

    DAWKINS, Billy…not “Dawson.”

  11.   Billy Dennis Says:

David, I am aware of communism stated antipathy toward religion. I am also fully aware that communist governments react to religious groups differently, from grudging acceptance to outright hostility to absolute refusal to accept any religion in their perfect worker’s utopia. And regardless, communism is NOT a “religion,’ its a form of government. Period.

And I stand corrected on Dawkins. Auto correct is a bitch.

Pol Pot came to power in on April 1975, a couple of weeks before the fall of Saigon. There was no public support to invade Cambodia (a second time) to depose the new Khmer Rouge regime.

No one here ever claimed it is.

    Except maybe Ollie. :D

I’m sorry, I know that I’m dealing the a conservative, who is OBVIOUSLY mentally handicapped. But I must hold you accountable for your own words.
    ;-)

  16.   David P. Jordan Says:

    Billy,

Lose the blinders…nowhere there do I call communism a religion. Communism tries to replace God as protector and the giver of rights. That doesn’t make it a religion.

  17.   ollie Says:

“Religion” isn’t quite the right word (and yes, I used it); but those sort of states are DOGMATIC and aren’t open to correcting their dogma according to evidence. In that way, they are similar to some religions (e. g., the Christians who claim that the world is 6000 years old, etc.)

  18.   David P. Jordan Says:

    Ollie,

How are evolutionist’s any less DOGMATIC about their beliefs? They claim to know the answers (arrogantly calling it “science”) when in fact they can’t (it is still the THEORY of Evolution).

And Billy, I wouldn’t give Communism the stature of the religion label. It is Humanism, not religion.

  19.   Billy Dennis Says:

Well, you’ve now backtracked on your original assertion. Glad to hear it.

As far as the THEORY of evolution goes, it’s one that 99.99 percent of scientists follow. Do you NOT believe evolution occurs? Please tell me you are one one of these people who believe that the entire Earth was created some 6,000 years years on the whim of a supernatural being …

for those that don’t belive in evoution answer me this one…….

where has the antibiotic resistance bacteria come from ?

has God created it recently ?
