So I drove by the corner of University and West Main yesterday.
Traffic was backed up for two blocks approaching the corner. It seems someone had blocked off the right turning lane with pylons for two blocks. Was there ANY work being done on Main Street for those two blocks? Why no, of course not. It seems that the city just wanted that two block long section of the road free from traffic. Why? Who knows!
And the traffic congestion this caused? Why, just a happy coincidence!
If you were inconvenienced by this delay, you might want to thank the city for its consideration of by calling Public Words Director Dave Barber at (309) 494-8800 or (309) 494-8850. Let him know how much you LOVED being delayed on your way to work yesterday. And your can pass along your thanks to Send District Council member Barbara Van Auken at bvanauken@ci.peoria.il.us.
UPDATE: They were apparently private contractors working on One World, which was hit be a car the other day. They are done now and the pylons are removed. Good.
Or you could blame the woman that ran into One World with her car after midnight Saturday morning.
Yep, the contractor had to close that lane to repair One World after a woman who missed her left turn onto University at 12:30 in the morning by about 200 feet. She was arrested for DUI. Go figure.
