I was fired today

But I’m not going to take it personally. They fired EVERYONE.

Afni on North Hale decided to close its doors effective June 11. That puts about 210 people (in both the Universal and Due Date departments) out of work. I have a nice letter telling me about  the decision. But I know something was up when they scheduled a group meetings today.

They blamed it on high attrition and the quality of the work we have been performing.

We get to keep any unused Personal Time Off we have accrued. We get to keep all the money we have vested in out 401K. They will “help” us write resumes and such. But no severance pay. And they hope we continue to work right up until they lay off us.

Lucky us.

So, I’m going to try to NOT get fired and stay on for two months, then collect sweet unemployment.

UPDATE: At least I’m not THIS GUY.

    Back to cyber-begging for you.

  2. David P. Jordan says:

Sorry to hear about that Billy, but you weren’t “fired.” That implies wrongdoing. I think you were actually laid-off, correct?

  3. Sam Bush says:

Sorry to hear that. Exactly what does this company do?

  4. BrianG says:

    My condolences.

    “Fired, down-sized, right-sized, laid-off” the term doesn’t matter.

Just wait until Rush Limbaugh says something stupid or insensitive. You’ll be rolling in ad revenue from the blog. ;)

  5. Billy Dennis says:

Ha! I am DONE actively asking for money in any post. I took so much crap, it wasn’t worth it. Besides, I thing I earned about $40 in donations starting from the time I began Limbaugh-blogging and now, and it was a spur of the moment donation unrelated to Limbaugh.

I will, however, sell as many ads as possible.

That sucks, sorry to hear. You’ve got 2 months to find something else, at least, so it could be worse. Good luck.

If you become poor like me, maybe you’ll finally join me in my quest against corrupt Illinois Democrats and their Illinois Democrat policies that tax poor people at the 2nd highest rate in the US. Illinois Democrats don’t care if you are poor after losing your job, Billy, they only care about taking your money for the cronies and family.

    Sorry to hear that, Bill.

    Oh I forgot…bastardly capitalists!

Ha! Serves the company right. Though people will be out of work, but this place had high turnovers (people getting fired and hired left and right) and all they cared about was administration and making sales on Verizon FiOS to get a bait & switch bonus check. I worked at Afni from Jan.-Oct. 2011. I quit and now I’m happy working at the hospital where at least I have a life and weekends off unlike those dips–ts at Afni. Did I also mention they wrote me up becasue they wouldn’t give me time off for graduation and later ripped me off in PTO because I had a jewelry sale on a Saturday? Two of my supervisors quit around the time I left. I betcha everybody will go to Affina rather than leave Peoria for bigger opprtunities.

BTW Bill, were you once of the supervisors on 2nd shift?

  10. I saw this on the Journal Star website and thought it was the company where you work. My condolences, Billy. Hope you’re able to find another job soon.
