Friends don’t let friends quote Fox news

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Never, ever, ever lift a quote from Fox News. Ever:

The Washington Post has corrected its article that included an apparently fabricated quote by President Obama.

The initial version of the article quoted Obama as saying, “unlike some people, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.” TPM reported earlier today that the first three words were not spoken by Obama – they were apparently concocted by Steve Doocy of Fox News, who portrayed the remark as a jab against Mitt Romney. Those three words have been removed from the Post article.

The updated Post article includes this note at the top: “An earlier version of this post incorrectly quoted President Obama’s reference to not being born with a silver spoon in his mouth. This version has been corrected.”

Whenever a current or former mainstream media member chides citizen journalists for being ideologically driven amateurs who write without adult supervision, I am reminded of Fox News.

16,000 people want to shoot pepper spray into the face of Fox News analyst Megyn Kelly (and who can blame them, really?)

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

From the Upshot:

Following the protests at UC Davis, during which Occupy protesters were sprayed with pepper spray by a campus police officer, Fox News commentator Megyn Kelly went on the Bill O’Reilly show.

Kelly appeared to downplay the physical effects of pepper spray. Kelly said pepper spray is “like a derivative of real pepper. It’s a food product essentially.”

Maybe so, but her comments have sparked a spicy backlash. A petition is circulating on the Internet that suggests Kelly should put her eyeballs where her mouth is by getting sprayed with the substance on live television. Currently, more than 16,000 people have signed the pledge. Kelly herself notes in the interview that the spray is  “obviously invasive and obtrusive and several [people] went to the hospital.”

First: Only Fox News would employ a perky blonde analyst named “Megyn.”

Second: Only Fox News would employ an analyst who would dare to go on their air and scoff at how dangerous pepper spray is.

Third: I would not hold my breath waiting for Megyn Kelly to get shot in the face with pepper spray. How many of these right-wing commentators who volunteered to be water boarded actually went through with it?

Murdoch being sued for stealing emails of terror victim

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Awww, pity the poor media magnate:

The mother of a victim of the 2005 London terrorist attacks is suing Rupert Murdoch‘s media empire after she was told by police that her son’s mobile phone is likely to have been targeted by a private investigator working for the News of the World.

Sheila Henry filed a high court writ this week against the paper’s owner, News Group Newspapers, alleging that journalists at the tabloid, which closed in July, hacked into a mobile belonging to Christian Small, 28, on the day he was killed by a bomb blast on the London Underground.

Remember: These people also spied in American citizens in the United States. But American politicians are too far in the bad to protect us from these thieves.

Meanwhile, WMBD 1470 still carries Fox News … which is owned by News Corp. So when you listen to WMBD, you are putting money in the hands of Rupert Murdoch.

'FOX News Watch' ducks any coverage of ongoing News of the World hacking scandal

Monday, July 11th, 2011

FOX News Watch is supposed to be where FOX takes a look at controversies involving the business of journalism. Apparently, this doesn’t include FOX News itself.

On the show’s website, Fox News posts “Behind the Breaks” videos of the panel chatting during commercial breaks. In the first break, the panel — including Judith Miller, Cal Thomas and James Pinkerton — can be heard chatting about “the subject we’re not talking about today.” Thomas asked his colleagues if anyone is willing to bring up the scandal. “Sure,” Pinkerton answered jokingly. “Go ahead, Cal.” As the panel laughs, Thomas responds, “I’m not going to touch it.”

News Corp. owns Fox News Channel, in addition to News of the World.

By comparison, CNN’s Howard Kurtz devoted the entire first segment of “Reliable Sources” — which is the only other media criticism show on cable news — to the News of the World story.

Same of bullshit here.

By the way, 1470 WMBD continues to air FOX News radio reports. Now the station is owned by JMP Media. It doesn’t HAVE to air FOX news. It chooses to, even though FOX Nation continues to lie about Peoria.

Fox News is run by arrogant, manipulative, lying asshats

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

All you need to know about Fox News’ bunker mentality can be gleaned by this article about how station refused to return an Associated Press phone call for comment about a lawsuit, then complained about the lack comment:

Shortly after the story appeared, Fox News spokeswoman Dana Klinghoffer said that it shouldn’t have published without comment from the news channel. When an AP editor asked her for a comment to be included in an updated version, the spokeswoman refused, saying it was being given to a competing media outlet and AP could get it from them.

The updated AP story, distributed about 90 minutes after the original version, included the statement that Fox News was refusing to comment.

On Friday, Klinghoffer demanded a correction to the Thursday story, maintaining the AP incorrectly stated that Fox News declined to comment. But the network still refused to provide the AP with its statement on the lawsuit, referring the AP to a statement given to Politico.

It’s bush-league. But it works for the target audience, people who are upset at somebody because their lives are the white picket fantasies they were taught was their birthright and are looking to blame the media.

Politics: I’m sure FOXNews would be equally upset if a Dem had been treated unfairly

All this FOXNewsie wanted was some “fair and balanced” reporting. Right?

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/P2mHxhamWdk" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

Yeah, “Babies, Lies and Scandal” isn’t a headline designed to accurately and fairly relay information about the contents. But since when to tabloid-style celebrity-obsessed magazines like Us Weekly gives a rat’s ass about fairness and accuracy. The standard instead is “close enough to avoid lawsuits while selling as many copies as possible.”

As opposed to serious publications, which don’t care about sales and and place a premium on accuracy like … like … um …

I’ll think of one soon. Promise.

But forgive me for thinking FOXNews is a poor choice of defender for fairness and accuracy.

Media: Georgian irregulars start shooting at reporters

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Still don’t think being a reporter can be dangerous?

Here’s a clip of reporters having to flee from Georgian troops shot opened fire on them.

Remember, the United States has sided with Georgia. They are supposed to be the good guys. The victims.
