Local: We can patch up the broken logo selection process

Take a good look at the image on the left:

This is the image that was created by a member of the Peoria Police Department for their new patches. When representatives from Converse Marketing attended a Blogger Bash several months ago to discuss potential logo designs, again and again, they were told that the image of the Peoria skyline as one crests the hill in East Peoria on Interstate 74, with the Murray-Baker Bridge in the foreground, resonated with them. It evoked a feeling of coming home.

The image on the patch reminds one of that experience of cresting that hill. Unfortunately, none of the eight final logo candidates really does quite as good a job as this patch. Here’s the thing, there were 64 designs, but the finalists were apparently selected by the Peoria City Council.

So blame them if you don’t like the final choices, not Converse.

But I propose a do-over. The final eight selections — even though there were done professional and according to the specs of the whose who are paying the bills — just aren’t working for the public. Lets take a fresh look, even though an answer seems to be right under everyone’s noses
